Fiber Art

My Fiber work ranges between different techniques, including loom work, punch needle, tufting, coiling, and more. The ability to modify different fibers within each of these techniques allows experimentation that I love. I actively try to combine fiber techniques with other mediums to create interesting and unique pieces.

Design to Physical Product:

Designing a pattern into a workable piece goes through many different processes. First is desinging the actual pattern. I decide both the side loom (4 or 8 headles) than decide the tie-up design for the pieces. After seeing what I have created, I can adjust or change different steps. After this, I create the order I will weave, which will create my desired pattern. I can than change my actual loom to the parameters of my pattern. This entire process is a lot of trial and error, but it allows interesting patterns to be created.

The entire chair was welded and is fully modular. I used my woven pattern as upholstery.

I wove this pattern for over 30 feet in order to have enough to complete the chair. The weaving itself, without set up or finishing, took me over 40 hours to complete.

Dive Deeper: Chair Project

This chair was designed for my Sophomore Review Project, from a basic design to a functioning chair in my living room. I designed and created the pattern and the chair independently throughout the Spring Semester of 2022.
